The Story
Visiting a small basket boat maker in Phu Yen, I was struck by the silhouette of one worker's shadow from a high overhead sun. With their shadow cast upon the boat as they added a sealant, it made for a creative capture of both the artist and their bamboo-crafted canvas.
Basket boats are common in Vietnam and surprisingly stable. They serve a number of needs, and are painted often in bright colors. But it matters not if the bamboo-crafted boats are not first made seaworthy, making the process here a critical one.
