Oregon Coast Sublimity - Port Orford, Oregon

The Scene

The Oregon coast is often melancholy in appearance, with gray and overcast skies a standard offering. It makes those sunny, blue-sky days that much brighter.

On this particular day in Port Orford, the sky was especially unimpressive. But for the photo I ultimately captured, in black and white, this was helpful. Here, a foreground stream flows gently out to sea while partially reflecting the rock bluff beyond, as it stands guard along the shoreline. Textured sands also seem to fade effortlessly into the subdued surf, then calm seas and colorless sky. Oregon coast simplicity and sublimity.

If you look very closely, a lone seagull sits out on the farthest most rock. Even gray days offer beauty, often in simplicity, if you know where to look.
