En Garde, Golden Hour - Hoi An, Vietnam

The Scene

Captured near sunrise along Hoi An’s Thu Bon River, a traditional Ro fisherman works beneath both a yellow-gold net and golden-hour light.

With a long stick in hand, to help corral fish within the net, the man appears just as much swordsman here as he does fisherman—like a fencer with foil, ready to tackle the work of the day.

This was a fun early morning scene, both to witness and capture. There is a striking beauty in so much of Vietnam’s ancient and well-preserved ways of daily life, many of which you can still find today in Hoi An.
