Every year in Saigon, near the end of January and into early February, in the weeks leading up to Tet, sidewalks become flower gardens. It's as if every shop owner decided to open a flower shop on the same day! It makes for an incredibly colorful time of year in the city, and perhaps the prettiest.
Words alone here would certainly fall short. You really have to see it. All captures below are from recent years in Ho Chi Minh City, in the days and weeks leading up to the Lunar New Year celebration. And with just a couple showing the quiet, flag and flower adorned streets during Tet itself.
Similar to Christmas tree shopping in the US every December, where buyers are looking for trees and wreaths to adorn their homes, in Saigon it is a mad rush to get flowers and flowering trees before the biggest holiday of the year.
